Online Pilates vs Studio Classes: 5 Powerful Reasons to Choose Pilates From Home!

Compare online Pilates vs studio classes. Discover why Pilates from home may be your best choice with free Pilates workouts and beginner tips.

When I began my Pilates journey more than 12 years ago, I was chasing abs and a toned body! That later changed. After years of running and high-impact HIIT, I just wanted to stop waking up in pain, especially after an injury!

Then, something shifted. I decided to prioritise Pilates. I didn't stop my other workouts completely (I still love a HIIT session and using heavy weights), but I realised I NEEDED regular Pilates workouts, not just to look toned and get abs but also to FEEL amazing and transform my body completely.

I started slow, using free online Pilates videos, right in my living room. No mirrors, no pressure, just me and my mat.

Within a few weeks, my posture improved. My back pain eased. I felt lighter, stronger—and surprisingly peaceful.

Now I teach online Pilates and in-person classes full time, and I’ve helped hundreds of others start just like I did—from home and in studios!

That’s why I’m creating something special: an upcoming membership programme designed for real people, real lives, and real results. (More details soon 👀)

But let’s get to the big question:

Pilates from home, or outdoors- the beauty of at home Pilates is being able to do it wherever you want!

Pilates From Home Vs Studio Classes: Which One Fits You Best?

Choosing between online Pilates and studio classes comes down to your goals, lifestyle, and how you feel most supported.

Let’s break it down.

Convenience

Online Pilates:

  • Practice anytime, before bed or between Zoom calls, perfect for those of you working from home

  • No driving, no parking or needing to travel

  • Great for busy schedules or low-energy days – let's face it; that is most of us!

Studio Classes:

  • Scheduled times help build a routine

  • You’re more likely to stick with it if you thrive on structure

💡 When I was just starting, I loved rolling out of bed and doing a short 10-minute core session in my pyjamas before starting my very busy day.

Personal Attention

Studio:

  • Real-time feedback on form; however, be aware as many classes are packed with 20+ clients, and the teacher is not able to correct everyone fully!

  • Useful if you’re injured or completely new – if this is the case, make sure you book a 1-1 or a class size that is small!

Pilates From Home:

  • Rewind, pause, repeat—your pace, your way

  • No judgment or pressure

  • Ideal for beginners who prefer privacy, make sure you follow along with a certified Pilates instructor

Cost Comparison

Online Pilates:

  • Tons of free Pilates workouts online; online memberships are extremely cost-effective and very much worth that small investment

  • My current offerings include free classes and a free eBook for beginners

  • No travel or fancy outfit required (I still like to wear a matching set though; it just makes me feel good 😁)

Studio Classes:

  • Expect $20–$40 per session or more for a Reformer class

  • Monthly memberships can add up quickly

📉 If cost is holding you back, home wins hands down.

Variety and Flexibility

Online Pilates:

  • Hundreds of video options and instructors

  • Try core, glutes, flexibility, and even calming breathwork

  • Switch up your vibe anytime

Studio Classes:

  • More predictable structure

  • You may get the same instructor or method every time

🌱 I started with calming stretch sessions and built up to strength work without even realising it.

Motivation and Accountability

Studio:

  • The energy of a group can boost motivation

  • A social setting may help you commit

Pilates From Home:

  • You learn to rely on your own drive

  • It’s surprisingly empowering to show up for yourself

  • Joining an inexpensive membership allows you to be part of an online community; you can still talk to other members and share stories online!

💬 I still remember finishing my first full week of home workouts. No one clapped—but I felt like a champion.

Still Not Sure Which One to Choose?

Here’s a simple way to decide:

✅ Choose online Pilates if:

  • You value privacy and flexibility

  • You’re on a budget

  • You’re easing into movement after a break or injury

  • You're a beginner who wants to take the time to really prioritise their form

✅ Choose studio Pilates if:

  • You thrive with group energy

  • You need in-person form corrections

  • You enjoy the social aspect

🔥 Or—why not mix both? Studio for energy, home for consistency.
